Boy, how time flies when you're having fun! This was my very first magazine assignment, a fashion editorial for Kane Magazine. I was in charge of styling the wardrobe from Macy's and the set design at the Honolulu Design Center. In addition, this was also my first time shooting with Eirik, who would go on to appear in several of my photos including my famous 1950's picnic photo.
Back then, I had a very rudimentary lighting kit based on what I could afford: A simple canon 430EX and some tabletop clearance lights from Ritz Camera. Those tabletop lights were optically-triggered, so I had to position them very carefully on the set or they wouldn't fire at all. After some shifting around and careful composition, I had the shot that would be printed as a great center photospread with room for copy.
Six years later, I'm still doing my simple lighting setups to achieve great results.
