One of our stops in Kona was the famous St. Benedict's Painted Church. Unlike the painted desert, the Painted Church is literally painted! Inside the very humble structure is a visual wonderland of art. Some of the art depicts scenes from the bible and some of the art is just pretty patterns. There is also a very cute cat that guards the church (he was sleeping at the time we got there). Outside the church there are handmade crafts for sale. The church is free to visit and donations are encouraged to help them maintain and upkeep the art. The drive to get to the church is a long and winding one, but very worth it.
