January's Firebird Friday party is mod-themed. A lot of people are confused as to what that means, so I wanted to share some ideas and inspiration. I'll also tell you where you could pick up some awesome finds.
First off, Mod fashion is not to be confused with Hippy fashion. They were both iconic 60's sub-cultures, but while Hippy fashion was free-flowing, earthy and acid-trippy, Mod fashion was tailored, clean-cut and used a very limited color palette.
Female mods either dressed androgynously in trousers, fitted shirts and flat shoes – or pushed the boundries and wore very miniskirts. Look towards Twiggy or Jean Shrimpton for some fashion inspiration. Here's some ideas for women's mod clothing:
Men often wore tailored suits with thin lapels. Skinny neckties were a must with any collared shirt. Shoes were pointed-toe and most-likely brown leather. Look towards the Beatles for some fashion inspiration. Here's some ideas for men's clothing:
